A Hidden Gem in Buyeo: A Unique Take on Makguksu

During my recent trip to Buyeo, I stumbled upon a well-known restaurant nestled near Nakwaam Cliff. As the crisp autumn air wrapped around the landscape, this cozy spot felt like the perfect place to indulge in a hearty meal.

The Makguksu Experience  

The makguksu here offers a flavor that sits somewhere between traditional Korean naengmyeon and your typical buckwheat noodles. It’s not as mild as the dongchimi broth you’d find in Gangwon-do, nor does it have the strong anchovy-based kick you might expect. Instead, it strikes a balance—a slightly bold, refreshing taste that’s memorable yet distinct from the norm.  

This isn’t a place for subtlety; it’s more of a “wow, that was interesting!” kind of meal. The noodles themselves don’t have a high buckwheat content, so they’re quite chewy, almost reminiscent of naengmyeon.  

Paired with the noodles is a generous serving of pork slices—more like tender boiled pork than the usual thinly sliced *pyeonyuk*. The thick cuts are perfect for wrapping around the noodles, giving you a satisfying bite of savory goodness. It’s like enjoying a fresh, tangy noodle salad with a side of hearty meat.  

While the dish was enjoyable, I couldn’t help but think a side of lightly pickled radish would have added the perfect tangy crunch. Perhaps that’s just me craving a flavor reminiscent of *milmyeon* or another regional take on makguksu.

Final Thoughts  

Would I travel far just for this? Probably not. But if you find yourself in Buyeo, it’s worth stopping by for a unique take on a classic dish.  

Just a heads-up: weekends can get busy, so it’s best to arrive early or have a plan for killing time while you wait. Either way, this place is sure to leave you with a warm, satisfying memory of Buyeo’s culinary charm.







어쩌다 도착한 부여의 알려진 식당.

낙화암에 다다라 보이는 식당의 끝자락은 가을의 겉옷 안에 잘 포개어져 있었다.

막국수는 심심한 강원도의 동치미 육수도 아닌, 그렇다고 멸치육수 같은 짠맛도 아닌, 냉면과 막국수 사이의 그 어딘가에 위치한 맛이었다. 어쩌면 조금은 자극적이라 본연의 맛보다는 특이한 한 그릇은 먹었다! 싶은 생각이 들 때 가보면 좋을 집이다. 면은 메밀 함량이 많이 높진 않아 매우 쫄깃해 냉면과 같은 느낌이었다. 함께 곁들이는 편육은 거의 수육이었는데 고기가 큼직하여 면을 싸 먹으면 입안 가득히 고기가 가득. 밑반찬으로 상큼한 면을 곁들이는 기분이다. 개인적으로는 여기에 적당히 익은 무생채가 있으면 어떨까 싶지만, 아마도 밀면과 같은 막국수의 맛 때문일지도 모르겠다.

멀리서 일부러 찾아갈 필욘 없어도 부여에 들를 일이 있다면 한 번 가봐도 좋을듯하다. 다만 주말엔 사람이 많을 수 있어 일찍 움직이거나 웨이팅 시 뭘 할지 생각해 가는 것이 좋을 수 있다.
